"I PAY CLOSE ATTENTION TO THE SIGNS MY BODY SENDS ME, I WATCH WHAT I EAT & NO, I DONT DO SIT UPS MORE THAN ONCE A WEEK!"
That is correct... I don't 'do' sit ups. Errgh who has time to deal with a hard flat uncomfortable floor, that tedious going up and down motion, a sore bum, sore back, working out your neck muscles more than your stomach... not me!
Number #1) I make sure the weights I incorporate into my training are ones that activate my core, such as deadlifts, deep squats, seated dumbbell press and preacher curls. I also made a conscious effort to hold in my core & to have a straight posture for every exercise I do.
Number #2)Ok maybe once a week i'll do 10 minutes of secluded abs, but thats it, and only because i'm being made to by my boot camp instructor! If I do this, I make sure I hold onto a heavy plate, for example during the russian twist (google it, its as awesome as it sounds!). 10 mins max!
Number #3) Listening to my body. I don't eat things I know that i'm allergic to, sensitive to or that bloat me and screw up my digestion. Did you know that by eating these types of foods you are actually inhibiting your gut from digesting food properly.. which means FAT STORAGE! For me, foods like rice, heavy pastas, turkey, red onion and high sodium products like soy sauce, - do not sit well with me. So I stay far, far away. So you're allergic to diary but you cant cut the cheese - trust me you are not helping your situation. Listen to how your body reacts to certain foods and cut it out.
Number #4)Fasted H.I.I.T people (that stands for high intensity interval training, and fasted means no brekkie)!! I cannot stress it enough. If you can do 3 sessions a week before brekkie, you are la-u-gh-inggg... 20 minutes is enough! Get out of bed, brush your teeth, throw your cute little nikes on and go out into the street. You can run 1 minute sprints up your street, walk back to the beginning to catch your breath and start again. I use stairs to sprint up, rest for 30 seconds and do it again. Once my 20 mins are over - im outta there. WARNING, this will cause massive amounts of shred. Try it, you wont be dissapointed.
Number #5)Last but not least. The bain of our existence - indulgence. Yes I love chocolate, I love red frogs, I love cake, God dammit I also really really love haloumi. Im not saying I dont eat them because that would be a pretty doozy lie.
But I am mindful of what and where and when I eat these foods. Weekdays I stick to the plan. Every second day I promise myself I wont stray from the plan, no matter how much I want it (try working in an operating theatre where there's brownies on tap all day, every day).
I also refuse to look at food as a treat. I will not 'treat' myself to food and neither should you. You're not a dog, and you dont deserve a treat because you behaved well, finished an assignment or had a hard day at work. By doing this you will just want to 'treat' yourself every time your think you deserve it... and trust me, yo brain be thinkin you deserve treaties all the time!! Uh-uh honay!!
So, suck it up, eat well throughout the week, and realise that abs really are made in the kitchen. That means if you want a nice flat, toned stomach all year round, you better be cooking a nutrient filled breakfast lunch and dinner all year round. Enjoy those special moments indulging in delicious yummies on the weekend with loved ones. Thats the best part about it all, drooling over your fave raw choccy cake with your best gf. Moderation is the key.
