-THE PRE WORKOUT TREADMILL SESSION-
Yes you read correctly. Dude… step away from the treadmill right meow!!
We are all well aware by now that weight training makes you fat burn for a longer amount of time post training in comparison to cardio. When you cardio train, your metabolism boosts up a little, maybe for an hour. But when we weight train, our metabolism is up there peaking duck all day, and we can pretty much burn fat with our eyes shut (literally, while you sleep - you will fat burn after a day of pumping iron).
BUT something I notice all the time at the gym is a person waltzing in, ear phones in, towel in hand, water bottle in the other and then straight on the treadmill for a ‘warm up’. Instantly a little part of me wants to run over, press the emergency stop button and kindly help them off the treadmill to the real part of the gym..
Trying to lift heavy and build lean muscle mass after 40 sweaty minutes on a treadmill isn't only going to leave you high and dry with absolutely no energy to train properly and effectively, but you’ve pretty much wasted some precious time training your lungs to be fitter rather than training those muscles to grow and burn.the.fat.away.
MY TIP: Do your cardio first thing in the morning before brekkie - 30 mins of fasted H.I.I.T is going to do wonders to your weight loss results. If you decide its a weight training day… warm up by spending 10 mins stretching every single muscle you're about to use first - and then go straight to the weights area. Start off by doing one rep of light weights to get the blood flowing and then rip in. NO TREADMILL.
(*yay* i hear some of you say) x
