How Moon Tracking Can Help You Live An Abundant Life

Astrology & in particular moon tracking is something I’ve been delving into for quite a few years now. I love this topic - not just because I believe it has brought so much magic & abundance into my life, but it’s allowed me to really get intuitive with myself and my feelings.

If you want to learn more about my own spiritual practice called Moon Magic, or my e-course, make sure you click here to read more.

So, this might sound a bit too woo for some people, but tracking the moon has helped me get in tune with the universe and the energy it throws us (I’ll explain more about what I mean by this later!)

I even have a little moon tattoo on my wrist to remind me to check in (a matching tattoo I got with my sister one late night in Kings Cross, Sydney … hehe)! 🌙

Tracking the moon is something that has been done for centuries - it’s a very feminine thing to do because the moon has a feminine energy, meaning it encourages you to go inward and tune into your feelings and intuition.

I track the moon as a part of my morning ritual (which I outlined in my morning routine blog) and I really encourage you to do the same. By the end of this blog you’ll have a better idea of why I encourage you to look up at the sky each night and what it all means.

In this blog I’m going to share:

  • Why I love to track the moon

  • How the moon influences us

  • What moon tracking can bring into your life

  • How moon tracking works &

  • What is the link between the moon and manifesting abundance

So let’s dive in!

How does the moon influence us?

As you may know, the moon controls the tides of the ocean.

As humans, we’re made up of 75% water! If the moon has control of the ocean so fiercely, who’s to say the moon doesn’t have the same influence on us as humans?

If I could urge you to do anything at all, it’s to always set an intention at the new moon. Even if you do nothing else from this blog, do this one thing! You can follow me here on IG where I always post the theme of the upcoming new moon, so you’ll never miss one.

If you’re not sure when the full moon is, you can download my free Moon Magic calander thats specific to your location here on my home page.

Why should we track the moon

Moon tracking is a way to cultivate peace, joy, and balance into your life, as well as abundance. But the abundance that comes into your life as a result of moon tracking is actually an after-effect.

This is a really great way for us to see the bigger picture in life, to tap into our feelings, to cultivate trust and gratitude, to rest and restore, and it’s a great way to set an intention, but also to take action.

When I say take action, I mean to take discerning action. Discerning action is when you do something because you are so sure you want that thing in your life. It’s not just “mmm I’m going to give this a go”, instead it’s about tapping into your intuition or gut feeling and knowing “yes, this is the right path for me” or “no, this is not the right path for me”.

If you’re someone who is really excited about tapping into the spiritual world and learning how to tune into your intuition, this is a great place to start!

But also don’t be afraid if you’re brand new to this kind of thing! When I first started I had no idea - I had never even meditated in my life. This is a really gentle practice so I completely encourage you to try it out and see for yourself.

Moon tracking is all about slowing down, which is really important particularly for us as women (we’re always go-go-go, rushing around, doing a million things at once...well, that is me if I don’t dive into my moon practice!)

It’s a beautiful way to take a step back, take a deep breath and really just pay attention to what’s going on around us. Sometimes we’re so focused on what’s going on for others (acting out our role of mum, or wife, or best friend, or sister, holding space, taking on energies and constantly doing all the things) and we’re doing everything for everyone else but we’re not putting ourselves first. This is the perfect way to start putting yourself first, which is why I do it first thing every morning before I turn my phone or emails on - it’s my way of filling my own cup back up.

Moon tracking is a beautiful way to have a relationship with yourself. You’ll start to learn new things about yourself you never knew before, and you’ll start to notice little things that you previously missed. It might take a couple of cycles to get to this place, but the self-realisations will be worth it. For me it happened after the first few months, I realised what my true purpose was on this earth which was amazing to discover.

How does moon tracking work?

The process of moon tracking is very thematic - it’s feeling based and there are new themes each month around the zodiac signs. Each month is different, one month might be a financial month but the next month will be about romantic abundance, or creative abundance.

One thing to note is we can’t go into this blind - this is something I learned in the beginning. When I started moon tracking, I went in blind and was thinking “cool, what’s the theme this month? Awesome, it’s romance - definitely setting an intention around romance this month.” And because of this my results were really slow. What I then realised was that every single month is a great opportunity for you to tap into one of your Wild Idea Goals.

For those of you who don’t know, A wild idea (W.I) goal is one of your big, wildest dreams. On my vision board I have images of things I really want to manifest in life - my visions, my mission, who I want to be, what I want to have, what I want to do, etc. - these are examples of W.I goals.

But not just any old W.I … they’re broken down into the 12 different areas of your life:

  • Confidence & Leadership

  • Intuition & Spirituality

  • Hope & Progress

  • Career & Vocation

  • Wisdom & Travel

  • Transformation & Forgiveness

  • Relationships & Love

  • Health & Habits

  • Creativity & Fun

  • Home & Family

  • Mindset & Community

  • Money & Self worth

If you don’t have W.I goals, I really urge you to come up with some before diving into moon tracking - it’ll be so much more powerful if you have a solid vision for what you want your next year to be like. (If you’re a member of the HSE, you can download the W.I PDF and complete that - it’s our goal setting cheat sheet.)

For you to reach your big W.I goals, you have to work towards them in little incremental steps, month by month, using the 12 themes of the 12 zodiac signs - that’s what moon tracking is for. Every month is a little piece of the puzzle to put towards your W.I goals.

When moon tracking is a practice in your life, you’ll start to experience life slightly differently than you normally would. Rather than doing more things and declaring more of what we want, we’re actually going to be feeling instead - that’s why this is different.

This isn’t about affirmations, or looking at a vision board, or writing what you want to cultivate in your life - its about going there emotionally and feeling what it feels like to have, be or do that thing.

Don’t get me wrong I’m all about visualisation, reading my mission statement regularly, journaling my thoughts and affirmations ~ but nothing is as powerful as letting the energy of the moon unlock the emotional power, and having you feel like you already have what you want.

And “feeling based” doesn’t mean we’re sitting there levitating while in deep meditation… 😂🙉

Instead, it’s about arriving there, before what you want shows up.

For eg: What does it feel like when I’m driving my dream car? What does it feel like opening the door to my dream home? What does it feel like being in the arms of my dream partner?

How do I feel in that moment?

We often delve into pseudo-gratitude practices - talking or writing about how we are grateful for our bed, or the roof over our head, or our family… But how often do we really, truly feel that gratitude through our entire body, so much so that your eyes well up and a small tear streams down your face? THATS FEELING & through moon tracking, we’re going to feel things a little deeper for perhaps the first time.

Yin and Yang energy

We all have ups and downs in life, and this is totally normal. This is where moon tracking comes in - when you’re in the middle of a “down” period, you can tap into the moon’s energy and understand why this is happening - it will all start to make sense because of the shifting yin and yang energy.

The concept behind yin and yang is that with light comes dark, with night comes day, with the sun comes the moon, with good comes bad - there’s a balance or equilibrium with everything in life. Without this balance, this world wouldn’t be as it is today.

This is Matt & I in Croatia watching the moon rise one night during our 12 month honeymoon around the world, it was seriously so beautiful. One of my fave moments in time captured in a picture.

Masculine and feminine energy is another example, which is why it’s so beautiful when two people of opposite energies come together - opposites attract! Whether they are male / female or both of the same gender, you will always find a beautiful ying yang energy that happens to compliement the other person so well.

In one moon cycle there are 8 moon phases, and every single phase has a different energy - yin or yang.

Yin energy is really feminine. It’s flowy, nice and it’s all about slowing down, taking a step back, breathing, and tuning into your intuition.

Then there’s yang energy, which is masculine. Yang is the doing energy, taking action on things and moving faster. During these yang phases, you’ll notice you’re more energetic - you’ll wake up earlier, you’ll go to sleep later, and you’ll be more proactive. You’ll often feel more like exercising in a yang phase compared to a yin phase.

The moon phases alternate between yin and yang and with these different energies comes a different focus for each phase.

The reason I explain this is because it’s normal to experience that “up and down” feeling of life. Sometimes we feel amazing, sometimes we feel really crap - that’s totally normal and you’ll start to notice what’s happening in your life according to what type of energy is coming from the moon.

You’ll often hear people talking about how crazy things happen around the full moon - surprise, surprise, the full moon is a yang energy and the most “yang-est” (I dont know if thats a word hehe) energy out of all the 4 yang phases in one cycle! This is when the moon is at its peak, so that yang energy is at its strongest during the full moon.

The cycle of the moon:

  • There’s one moon cycle per month, which has a zodiac theme associated with it.

  • Within each cycle, there are eight phases of the moon.

  • Each phase lasts for 3-4 days, and has either a yin or a yang energy.

What is the link between the moon and abundance?

Another amazing moon rise, looking over the city of Jaipur in India. It was so smokey so I couldn’t actually see the moon, but the colours were these incredible hues of pink and purple.

The moon represents our subconscious. We’re often taught to create abundance through conscious activity - vision boards, mission statements, affirmations, meditating, declaring what we want, etc.

However, with moon tracking we get to tap into our subconscious mind, which most of us don’t know much about or haven’t experienced before!

We can work really hard and do all the right things, yet sometimes we feel that we aren’t experiencing things like wealth and wellbeing in the way we want to.

We do the visualisations and the affirmations but we keep wondering why nothing is working!

Often our subconscious is actually driving our behaviour more than we realise, which is why moon tracking can be really cool - you start to realise little things you used to do, or how you were getting in your own way, and how you were self-sabotaging or those limiting beliefs you had.

What can happen in your life when you track the moon?

I know personally, since I have been moon tracking I have felt more in flow and in tune with my intuition than ever before. And I have ticked off every single item on my wild ideas vision sheet - I can’t explain it to you, it’s so bizarre but it’s definitely not a coincidence!

You might find that something you’ve always yearned for appears. Or you might find that you cultivate some type of abundance or gratitude for something you’ve never noticed before. It becomes a really joyful process, and the more you do it the more you’ll start to feel that abundance flows freely towards you.

I’m not a moon pro or anything, I’m just sharing with you the things I’ve learned over the years with my personal practice & study. I’ve read a lot about this subject, its something I could study forever (one of my W.I goals is to become an astrologist one day & study the sky as one of my lifes work 🙂 I picture myself doing this later on in life when I semi - retire or maybe before, who knows 😉)

My top tips for setting a new moon intention:

  1. Always make it about you - your intention can’t be about what someone else is going to do or hoping something for someone else - it needs to be selfish (in a good way!)

  2. Make it 100% positive - be careful with your words and always start with creating something, rather than avoiding something. It’s about being open. So instead of “I hope the bad goes away” It’s about “I intend for more good to come in”.

  3. Make it themed - don’t focus on a specific goal or concrete thing from your W.I goals. Think more about the theme of the zodiac month and small steps you can take towards a larger goal. E.g., instead of “i’ll finish my book” you’d say “I attract more creativity towards me and open my mind to writing more this lunar cycle”

  4. Connect with your feelings (the emotional and physical sensations in your body) so think about how it will feel when you achieve the goal, not just how it will look. Embody the whole thing and imagine feeling the scenario as if you already have it.

Feeling it before it happens and staying there until it happens - this is the secret of manifesting abundance!

This is so crazy - one of my biggest W.I goals was to stand in front of thousands of people and speak publicly. I used to be terrified of this - the thought of speaking in front of a large crowd scared the bejeebers out of me but I dont know why I wanted it so badly? I loved the feeling of educating and serving others in a large scale like that I guess, thats what brought me to tears ogratitudede when I thought about it.

I had this image on my vision board, but I also weaved it into my new moon intention throughout some months that aligned with the theme.

Since then, I’ve spoken many times in front of many people. My first time on stage was in front of 8000 people. It was insane!

I felt into this goal so intensely before it happened. I’d feel my hand holding the microphone, looking into the crowd as my heart started to race, I’d envision where I was standing on the stage, and how I felt in the outfit I was wearing.

And this is going to sound so crazy, but after that first speaking gig, people were coming up to me afterwards and asking me if I was nervous speaking in front of 8000 people… and I told them I wasn’t nervous at all! For me, I had played it over and over again in my mind so many times - it felt as though I’d been there before so many times.

It was so familiar.

So that’s just one example of the power of moon tracking in action!

My upcoming blogs will dive deeper into this, I’ve had so many emails from you asking for more about this beautiful practice so keep your eyes peeled.

I am also hosting a free webinar on the 13th of March, 2020 where I’ll dive deeper into this all, comment below in the comments section if you’d like to join in. This is usually an exclusive webinar I do for my paying clients only, so it will be extra special to have you there!
